Rocket.Chat Announces Internal Task Force to Prevent Future Platform Use by Terrorist Groups

While America and the world mourn the loss of victims in the devastating shootings in Boulder, CO earlier this week, we have sadly seen terrorist groups turn to social media platforms, including our own, to both discuss and to celebrate this horrific event. We are horrified by the atrocities perpetrated by extremists and we condemn the use of Rocket.Chat to promote terrorism. Our rules and guidelines strictly prohibit this type of behavior on our platform. As an open source platform that offers an openly collaborative ecosystem, Rocket.Chat provides a blueprint of the software that anyone can install on their own servers, without us, as a company, being able to access those private servers. Rocket.Chat was initially designed to offer freedom in connecting and therefore is not a centralized communication platform, but rather individual communities using their own servers to communicate. With that said, we closely monitor and report any and all radical group activities to the authorities. In correlation with this ongoing fight, today we are announcing a new internal task force that is dedicated to working with and informing the authorities of any current and/or future threats. The real-time tips and information that our community members provide remain an asset to us in this process. We listen. We investigate. And, if our platform is reported being used for illegal purposes then we immediately alert the authorities and cooperate with them to the highest level.Furthermore, in collaboration with law enforcement, we have created detailed guidelines on how agencies can reach out to us effectively and a more detailed explanation of our stance on this topic.Rocket.Chat is a popular platform that is chosen by millions of users worldwide, including governments, philanthropic organizations, and small businesses, to connect and collaborate each and every day. Our goal is to make communication open, flexible, and always inclusive - with a focus on being used for the positive. We fully believe in diminishing the presence of radical, terrorist, and/or hate groups from our platform and our new internal task-force will help do just that. With the new task force in place, Rocket.Chat will expand on its diligent work to provide users with a secure and positive digital communications platform that they have grown to enjoy and rely on for years to come.

Gabriel Engel is the CEO and co-founder of Rocket.Chat, the leading open source communications platform.
